Molasses Books is a small used-bookstore and cafe/bar in Bushwick, Brooklyn. We opened in 2012, when there was no such thing yet as a bookstore-bar. We’ve hosted close to a thousand reading and book releases in the last fourteen years and are open daily from 11am to midnight.
We do virtually no online bookselling. The USED BOOKS tab on this website was an experiment in selling some nicer books on the internet. We listed some and it worked alright but never added more. We get new stock daily and have a wide and ever-changing selection of rarities and books that would warrant being added to this website if we cared about it. For now, please visit us in real life to see them.
Molasses Books Publishing is an essentially defunct imprint that ran for roughly six years and released both new work as well as reissued older, out-of-print titles.
Molasses Quarterly is a new literary journal, publishing fiction, poetry, art, interviews, and essays, with a focus on people that exist in somewhere within the Molasses orbit or lineage of respect. It does not currently seek unsolicited submissions, but you can send something anyway to molassesquarterly@gmail.com if you don’t mind not hearing back. I’ll likely look at it and there’s always a chance we’ll print it. If you do this, please include a letter clarifying whether you have any connection with the space at all, even as just a lapsed customer from years back.
